Hi, I'm Louise, the founder of The Complete Girl Friday
Based in Dumfries and Galloway, I specialise in high quality kitchen makeovers using expert spraying techniques - delivering a “like new” finish at a fraction of the cost!
With a background in Interior Design and a passion for craftmanship, I combine creativity and care to deliver transformations my clients love - all while championing eco-friendly methods that reduce waste and landfill.
When I'm not holding a paintbrush in hand, you'll find me in my garden or allotment, spending time with my three children, or looking after my Bees with my son. Beekeeping has deepened my commitment to sustainability, which is the heart of everything I do - in life and in business.
Why "The Complete Girl Friday"? It's a name rooted in versatility. Like the original "Girl Friday", I wear many hats - decorator, designer, problem-solver, organiser, and creator. No two days (or homes!) are the same - and that's exactly how I like it.
My Story in Colour
Born a farmers daughter in Dumfries and Galloway, I left home at 16 years old, to begin my professional life painting for Border Fine Arts—where precision, patience, and a steady hand were essential. It was here I first discovered the power of detail - the ability to bring characters and stories to life through colour and craftmanship.
At 23, I bought my first home at auction - a bold move that sparked my love for interiors and hands - on transformation. That project became my canvas, fuelling my passion for creating beautiful spaces on a budget in the home and garden.
Determined to develop my skills further, I studied and graduated in Interior Design at the Regent Academy of Fine Arts. This formal training sharpened my creative instincts and gave me the confidence to bring thoughtful, functional, and inspiring designs to life.
I later spent 16 years as a Manager then training officer at Greggs Bakery, where I built strong interpersonal skills, developed leadership skills, and learned the value of reliably and resilience.
In 2017, as a single mother of three, I made the bold decision to step into a male-dominated trade and start my own painting and decorating business — not just to return to my creative roots - it was about building a more flexible future for my family, and a chance to show my kids that with hard work, passion, and belief in yourself, anything is possible - one brushstroke at a time.
I have so much love and pride for my three children, who are the heart behind everything I do, I am especially proud that my two daughters now help with my business when they are home from University and on line when they are studying. To see them stepping into this world - strong, skilled, confident - means more than words can say.
Since then, I've been transforming homes with pride, precision, and personality. From detailed hand painted finishes to full kitchen resprays, every project is fuelled by purpose - and a desire to prove that woman not only belong in the trades, they can lead with passion, skill and confidence.
This isn't just a business. it's a mission - to challenge the norm, inspire change, and show that it's never to late to follow your passion and build a career you love.

While our founder, Louise Hastings, has been the heart and soul behind the business from the very beginning, we’re proud to say that family remains at the centre of everything we do - the true colour behind every project.
We’re Poppy and Paige — two sisters currently studying different courses at the University of Aberdeen, but united by our passion for the family business.
While we’re building our skills in different fields, we both play active roles here — from admin and content creation to supporting day-to-day operations to hands-on painting and decorating. Balancing studies and business means we’re learning a lot every day and growing alongside the The Complete Girl Friday, injecting colourful ideas and a youthful spark into the business.
